Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand wants to reach a major final with England before the end of his career.

The stopper also wants to see a more professional and focused Three Lions squad for this summer's World Cup in South Africa after something of a media circus surrounded England's campaign in Germany four years ago.

“You don't play just to get a cap or to be there. You play to win and to achieve something, and if I was to finish my career with England and not even to have got to a final, I'd be very disappointed,” the United man told The Guardian.

“The whole circus that followed the England squad last time at the World Cup was a joke, and I wouldn't like to see that again. It's a distraction and is detrimental to our chances.”

Ferdinand is prepared to sacrfice time with his family if it means that he and the rest of the England players face fewer distractions and improve their chances of success this summer.

“I'd rather go to the World Cup, say to yourself 'Block off four weeks or whatever it is to win the World Cup', and not see your family,” he added.

“I love my kids and my missus as much as anybody else, but if it meant me winning the World Cup and not seeing them for four weeks, I'd take that.”

With John Terry unlikely ever to captain a Fabio Capello-managed England side again, Ferdinand has been named as England skipper.

Injury keeps him out of the Three Lions' friendly with Egypt at Wembley on Wednesday night, but he is looking forward to taking on the responsibility in the near future.

“Tony Adams was a shouter; Bobby Moore led by example. They were two different types of captain, but both were successful,”  he explained.

“I do a bit of both. I lead by example, but when somebody needs to be told I never shirk that responsibility.”

The Guardian reports that a group of fans, referred to as Red Knights, have met to discuss the possibility of raising money to buy Manchester United. While the group is confident that it can raise GBP 1 billion, the Glazer family has released an emphatic statement saying that the club is not for sale.

The group is said to be serious in its its intentions and includes prominent United fans such as Goldman Sachs' chief economist Jim O' Neill, law firm Freshfields' partner Mike Rawlinson, hedge fund Marshall Wace partner Paul Marshall, advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi's deputy chairman Richard Hytner and stockbroker Keith Harris, who has been involved in many takeovers. The intensity of the talk seem to have increased following the information that the club is carrying debts of over GBP 700 million and because of revelations about the cash flow details of the club. O'Neill has said, “There's too much leverage going on with Manchester United. It's not a good thing. I'm not a buyer of the bond.” This despite the fact that his firm was one of those underwriting the Manchester United bond issue that raised GBP 504 million.

Last week, Harris had asked the club fans to continue their anti-Glazer campaign of wearing old team colors green and gold, harking back to the club's roots, and to actually boycott the club. Harris, who is a United fan has said a new takeover can give fans a stronger standing in influencing the club's future.

During the bond issue in January, Manchester United released a 322-page prospectus and this document showed that Glazers could potentially take out nearly GBP 130 million in cash from the club in 2011 alone. There is also the interest payment or yield on the GBP 504 million bond which will work out to about GBP 45 million. This means that next year alone the club will be used to procure about GBP 172 million to help the Glazers deal with their various borrowings.

While the bond issue and ensuing details have raised the ire of fans, it has also strengthened the position of the Glazers. The bond has been over-subscribed twice but now the risk level attached to the bods have been increased.
A blogger named Andersred, who is actually investment professional and United fan Andy Green, has been challenging the process and has said, “There is a very serious process going on in the City, with investors looking at a structure in which fans can develop as significant a stake as possible. Key will be persuading the Glazers to sell.”

United chief executive David Gill is expected to give a public defence  of the club's refinancing plan during the Manchester Soccerex conference on Wednesday.

Manchester United were trying for their second straight English Carling Cup trophy on Sunday, February 28, 2010. They would play Aston Villa who had performed well against the Red Devils, including a win at Old Trafford in the EPL this season. The match was at Wembley Stadium in front of over 88,000 spectators. Aston Villa were looking for their first trophy in several years.

Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester United – Video Highlights

Wayne Rooney wasn’t expected to play most of the match but ended up netting the game winner to give Manchester United the Carling Cup trophy.

Villa started out strong in the match and would take the lead in the 5th minute as James Milner converted a penalty kick. The penalty was earned by Agbonlahor who was taken down in the box. Manchester United would come back in the 12th minute as Michael Owen scored.

The match continued scoreless heading into halftime but before that Rooney came on as a first half substitute. Michael Owen had an injury and Rooney was in the match earlier than expected.

In the second half, United started to dominate play with virtually all the good scoring chances. Villa was able to hold them off the scoreline until the 74th minute when Rooney headed it past goalkeeper Brad Friedel. The goal proved to be the match winner and Manchester United repeated as Carling Cup champions.

It was a good start for Villa but they couldn’t keep up with Man United in the second half.

from: Sokanons Blog
Nicholettes Site

I own a Coolpix 4500, before I had a 950 and a 995. I’ve been using them all a lot.

Coolpix 4500 Pros:

- Very good overall picture quality if you use the following settings:
1600 x 1200 resolution (downsampling algorithm does a great job – I usually shoot at 2 mp when travelling to save space without losing much quality); medium quality jpeg; sharpening +1

- Sturdy all metal swivel design body allows you all sorts of shots that would be impossible to take with other types of camera.

- Fits in pocket (even though it is not really slim)

- Best macro of all compacts – if you need close-ups, the Coolpix is about the best choice around

- Lens is not extending out of camera body, so it is well protected from mechanical damage and dust (look at all those flaky extensible plastic gadgets on other cameras!).

- Accessory lenses available, especially the teles are excellent

- Best choice of options available in compacts, everything can be adjusted according to personal taste. All sorts of exposure and focus options a modern higher end SLR has.

- Good lithium battery with fast 2 hour charger (get a spare battery, though!)

- Still good quality at 400, usable at 800 ISO!

- Histogram allows you to check exposure

Cons:

- Lens does not deliver enough detail to take full advantage of the chip’s 4 megapixels. No improvement compared to 995 (3 mp).

- Little direct access to functions; you spend a lot of time fumbling

- Multi-level menus that are SLOW to navigate

- Slow lens (maximum aperture) at tele position); try 200 ISO whenever necessary

- Shutter delay too long (apparently slower than 995) for candid shots or anything that moves quickly

- LCD (1,5″) is too small, especially if you have eye problems; the 995 had a 1,8″, the 950 a 2″ screen!

- Distortion (pincushion at wideangle, barrel at tele)

- Does not focus well at low lighting levels (no AF assistance light)

- Clipped highlights (no detail in light areas while the rest is properly exposed; underexposing does not help much)

My conclusion:

I you want to shoot sports and under low light situations, or if you need the best resolution, get something else,

If you need to travel light, take close-ups, take pictures discreetly, need some more tele (with or without accessory lens) and are content with (very good) 2 megapixel pictures, get the Coolpix 4500.

Product Description
The compact, lightweight Coolpix 4500 offers the user a smarter way to take superior pictures. Whether you simply select program mode for ease of use or manual for full creative control, the Coolpix 4500 delivers excellent-quality images. The Coolpix 4500 boasts a radically exciting swivel design that provides unprecedented response and allows you to shoot at any angle. The 4x Zoom-Nikkor lens, with its 7.85-32mm focal range (equivalent to 38-155mm in 35mm camera format), delivers superb optical performance. 4.0 effective megapixels provide ultrahigh definition and combines with Nikon’s image processing algorithm to ensure images of remarkable color, contrast and clarity. With certain subjects, such as tall buildings, the perspective tends to be emphasized (slanted) when shot from a low angle. The perspective control feature allows you to de-emphasize or straighten the converging lines. Indeed, with so many features and accessories, and a remarkably easy-to-use design, the Coolpix 4500 promises to win over countless new users to the increasingly exciting field of digital photography.

To accurately answer your question not only would we need to know which lenses you want to operate with your D80, but what level of functionality you want in order to be deemed “working”. Pretty much any post-AI term lens will “function” in that you will get an image on the sensor (subject to crop factor) and the aperture will stop down correctly. AF lenses work with the D80 just fine pretty much across the board. Manual focus, well nothing stopping you from manually focusing, the D80 will even help a little with viewfinder focus indication. Metering is the tricky part, as is proper exposure function in auto and program modes. I have an old E-series Nikkor that won’t meter on my D50 (or your D80) so I have to shoot and determine exposure manually, but it still gives me sharp images. If I had a D200 though, it would actually even meter correctly due to advanced abilities of the D200 I don’t have. So you will always be able to get images out of your old lenses, you just may have to put some extra work in to getting the proper exposure.

  • 12-megapixel resolution for stunning prints as large as 16 x 20 inches
  • 5x wide-angle Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens; 4-way VR image stabilization system
  • Bright 2.7-inch high-resolution LCD; Scene Auto Selector and Smart Portrait System
  • Slim, stylish, metal design; less than 1-inch thick
  • Capture images to SD/SDHC memory cards (not included)

Product Description
Chic and convenient 12 megapixel camera offers outstanding value for money. Amazingly easy-to-use, Scene Auto Selector automatically optimizes all camera settings according to the subject you are shooting and the Nikkor 5x zoom lens with wide-angle capability can capture group portraits or expansive landscapes with ease. Nikon’s Smart Portrait System ensures perfect portraits and includes a skin softening function that makes your subject’s skin tone appear instantly… More >>

Trying to put together a wedding that is uniquely yours can seem overwhelming at times. With so many details to decipher and so many decisions to make, many couples turn to consultants for help in creating a wedding that truly reflects their special perspective. However, the internet has made it easier than ever to customize every aspect of your wedding. Designing and ordering photo wedding invitations online is one of the best ways to put your own personal stamp on the day right from the very beginning, and there are so many different options available, you're almost guaranteed to find a style and price that works for both of you.

Start by choosing a photo that's meaningful to you. Most couples opt for a picture that shows both their faces, but you could also use a closeup of your joined hands, a silhouetted embrace, a favorite shared activity, or even a special location that's significant for you. Your photo should be available in a digital form so that it can be emailed to the company; most of these services prefer JPEGS and the resolution should be as high as possible. If you cannot provide a photo that is at least 300 dpi, you may want to reconsider photo invitations, and for best results, the photo should be 600 dpi.

Got the photo? Now decide how much emphasis you want to place on it. You may want to pair it with a verse or quotation, or have it stand alone. In either case, there will be other information that needs to appear on the invitation, and you should decide where the recipients' initial focus should be. This, in turn, will help you start to visualize your invitation before you even begin checking out various styles.

Next, consider whether you want to include any or all of the accoutrements of a formal invitation. Do you need the traditional inner envelope that is used to specify exactly who you are inviting (i.e. Mr. John Smith and Guest?) How will your recipients let you know if they plan to attend? R.S.V.P cards and envelopes are the usual method, but you may want to invite people to respond by email and save on postage. Are your wedding and reception in the same location? Will you need to insert cards inviting a smaller group of guests to one or the other? These options can make a big difference in the cost of your invitation package.

Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, visit the sites listed below. Many other sites offer additional designs and options, but these are a good place to start and will provide an excellent overview of the packages available.

Fun Foto Invitations.com
URL: http://www.photoannouncementsweddinginvitations.com/

A good choice for those seeking photo invitations on a modest budget. While a number of different layouts are available, this site basically offers “all-in-one” 5 x 7″ photo wedding invitations and envelopes. Inserts (such as maps/directions, reception cards, etc.) and R.S.V.P. cards are available at an extra charge. Up to 5 proofs are provided for approval prior to printing to ensure that your invitation will look the way you want it.

Photo Wedlock Invitations
URL: http://www.photowedlockinvitations.com

While some of the 56 different designs available at this site are very affordable, others are decidedly “upscale” and have accents such as translucent overlays or satin bows. Some include inside envelopes while others are designed as “seal-and-send” invitations that don't require envelopes. The site allows you to lay out the wording of your invitation and preview it in several different fonts or colors, which makes the decision-making process much easier. A proof will be emailed within 3 days.

Hopefully you're now on your way to creating an invitation that you and your guests will treasure for many years to come.

Photo Diary: New York Fashion Week

The internet is home to a glut of information on how to fake your way in to New York Fashion Week (seriously, Google it). But for the hundreds who desperately want in there are thousands who don’t understand why this week, or its worldwide counterparts, matter. New York Fashion Week has become an arena housing a spectacle of sartorial gladiators, a place to see and be seen, and a bit of an enigma to those who don’t work within the industry.

Perhaps it’s because Fashion Week is about more than just clothes. It exemplifies much of the quintessential New Yorker’s spirit, i.e. a willingness to get your hands dirty, a toughness that is untarnished by its accompanying grace, and the indestructible love of being in the thick of things. It proves it is possible to thrive on experiences — and to live on free Zone Indulgence bars and Light Frappuccinos, to don bare legs and five-inch heels in the midst of a snowstorm, to reapply your makeup in Sephora between show and party, and wash up in a portable toilet.

Plus this year marked the end of an era: the last season after 17 years of shows at Bryant Park before it moves to Lincoln Center. Below, check out some of our favorite images from a week filled with sartorial adventures.

Photo Blog Tell me if you like them - i love to discuss the photos with you!

Jill Greenberg, a freelance celebrity photographer, has admitted on her website that she deliberately made photographs she took of presidential nominee John McCain negative and unflattering. The Atlantic Magazine hired freelancer Jill Greenberg to take photos of McCain for an upcoming edition of the magazine. According to her blog, Jill Greenberg used uplighting to portray McCain as devilish and did not airbrush or retouch his red eyes and skin tone. Correcting minor imperfections after the shoot is a common practice for photographers, including Jill Greenberg.

After The Atlantic rejected most of the photographs and went with a more traditional, although still unretouched, portrait of McCain, Jill Greenberg posted some of the photos on her website and Photoshopped scribbles on them, depicting McCain as a devil with horns and with blood dripping from his fangs.

In her blog, Jill Greenberg boasts “I left his eyes red and his skin looking bad.” She blames Atlantic Magazine for hiring her in the first place. “Some of my artwork has been pretty anti-Bush, so maybe it was somewhat irresponsible for [The Atlantic] to hire me.”

On The Atlantic's website, the author of the article photographed by Jill Greenberg apologized to readers and expressed his sheer disbelief at the level of unprofessionalism exhibited by Greenberg.

Is it okay to let your politics show in the workplace? Jill Greenberg sees nothing wrong with her actions. As a management consultant, I have many clients whose politics differ from my own. But they have hired me to do a job and that's when personal opinions are put aside and professionalism kicks in. If I chose to imbue the work I do for my clients with my own politics, I would rightly be fired and could likely expect to not work in the field of management accounting again.

Jill Greenberg has not done herself or the Democrats any favors. She will likely find her calendar less booked, even by Dem-leaning clients who may feel that her lack of professionalism could extend to other personal opinions. Greenberg's actions and admissions will lead her down the path of becoming an industry pariah. If Jill Greenberg's goal was to bring notoriety to her self and her business, she may have accomplished that in a very different manner than she intended.

School of Education junior John Truesdell catches a pass from LSA sophomore Zach Lemis during a warm up for the Michigan Ultimate Frisbee Team magnUM’s practice in the Oosterbaan Fieldhouse from 1 to 2:30 a.m. this morning.

Thanks for the feedback, and I will keep reading this if I get more useful feedback.

mdruziak: I appreciate your comments, but my question did not pertain to composition.

Overread: I'm setting the camera so that it focuses on the center AF point only. Then I aim that point at the trees. When I view the photo on my computer at "original size," the trees look blurry.

I understand that apertures at both ends of the scale can be soft, so I try to use a critical aperture on something like this between 8 and 16.

I'm wondering if the fact that there is little contrast here inhibits the camera's ability to focus. I notice that I have sharper images when there is more contrast and tonal variety in the shot.

The lens has a distance scale but no DOF scale.

As I understand the concept of hyperfocal distance, I don't need to focus on the trees. I just focus the camera at twice the length of the nearest thing I want to be in focus, and then everything from that to infinity will be in focus, depending upon the f stop.

Here's the thing, the trees are at infinity. And the focal ring on the camera is reading infinity. So why aren't the trees in focus?

If the trees are 300 feet away, and the aperture is f/16, the hyperfocal distance should be 46.3 feet. I'm pretty sure that 46 feet is infinity. Right?

Professionally speaking, this is one of my favorite times of the year. We’re deep into taking entries for The Eagle’s Great Outdoors Photo Contest. Entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. next Monday.

Every day is a new adventure as Bo Rader, our chief photographer, and I open envelopes or online entries. Every day there’s a new shot or two that really grabs our attention.

Some are amazingly good, especially this year.

We’re seeing a lot of the usual favored photo subjects – bald eagles and sunsets. We chuckle at how poorly a small percentage of entrants follow entry instructions.

This year there’s a run on owl photos for some reason.

As they have the past eight years the entries have gotten better than before.

To think, the first year a sizable percentage of entries came printed on regular computer paper.

Monday evening or Tuesday will be the toughest time as Bo, some other photographers and I try to narrow 300 or so photos down to 15 adult and 5 youth finalists.

As I look at the final selection of photos I can’t help but try to figure which ones will be voted the best when the public votes in a few weeks.

Last year I was right the first time I saw David Birmingham’s amazing photo of a brilliant male cardinal flying through a snow-covered cedar. A couple of years my initial favorite is voted out of the  pool of finalists by all the other photographers

This year?

To be honest, we have so many great entries I’m not even sure which ones I’d pick to be finalists, let alone which adult and which youth entries might win.

Like I said, it’s a lot of fun.

2009 NCAA Football Predictions: Virginia Tech

Sony Qualia Beamer by solider

Mitsubishi HC 1100 DLP-Projekto kaufen

Virginia Tech was a young and inexperienced team in 2008, but they could possibly be contenders for this season's national championship. With an experienced and polished Tyrod Taylor leading the offense, there is little doubt in my mind that this will be Tech's greatest season since Michael Vick was the team's QB. With a little luck, the team could easily find their way into the national championship hunt, but will unlikely finish the season higher than second place.

Running a simulation using NCAA Football 2010 (Electronic Arts) on the Sony PS3, Virginia Tech ended up with a 12-1 record, including an ACC Championship win and an invite to the Orange Bowl. Their one loss in the simulation was to Alabama, which I believe they will win in real life. Although I predict Virginia Tech to make it to the national championship along with Florida, their win streak will end there. Florida will pull off the win with their bench depth and championship experience.

The two primary keys to Virginia Tech success are Tyrod Taylor at QB and Darren Evans at tailback. The Virginia Tech Hokies will open the 2009 season with an upset win over Alabama, which will set the tone for a magical season. If Frank Beamer's special teams and Bud Foster's defense perform the way they have for the past decade and a half, the Hokies will be the strongest team in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). This will be the first season in several years where Virginia Tech will field a strong and competent offense. Tyrod Taylor will need to remain healthy for the entire season for the offense to hold together.

As a side note, another national championship appearance by Frank Beamer will certainly secure his place as a legend of college coaching. Beamer's only appearance in a national championship was in the 1999 season when Michael Vick led the Hokies in an unfortunate loss against Florida State. I am predicting another national championship loss for the Hokies a decade later, but with a little luck and magic, we might be watching a true Cinderella story with the Hokies this season.

Here are my predictions for Virginia Tech's season:

My son and daughter age 4 and 5 needed some thing to get busy. I wanted to them a nice electronic game. I researched every where. I had no idea what to buy for them. There are loads of electronic games but which electronic game will best suite them was a difficult to choose for me.

In my childhood I played Nintendo game and watch a lot. I was looking for similar game for them. I still remember I used to play hours and never felt bore.
When I went to a toy shop and discussed about the type of game I am looking for . The guy was nice and he recommended me to buy Nintendo Game boy Advance SP game for both of them.

I checked the game and I find it quite nice and better than what I was looking for. The Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP is quite expensive but I think worth buying. I bought two sets. I selected pink for my daughter and blue for my son.

My kids specially my son who is 4 loved the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP.
There are 75 different games pre-installed in this machine. The Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP has charger to charge the game set and once charge it lasts up to 8 hours. The game can be played non-stop during for 8 hours.. gosh. There is a sort of cassette slot at the back. The slot is to add new games of the choice and play.

I myself played with my kids and found it quite nice game. There are almost all of the latest cartoon game like Barbie, Ben-10, Tom and Gerry, teen age mutant ninja turtle, superman, batman, pack man and many many more preistalled.

Me and my kids loved it. I noticed all these games are not difficult to play. Almost all games are suitable for young kids. The buttons are reachable for all hands. There are tow buttons L and R at the back of the game which is easy to control by kids of all ages. I also noticed the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP has able to engage my kids for hours. They are never frustrated or never complained how to use all the control buttons.

I my self play and find the control buttons reachable and soft to press. The colours are nice and really suited the game . The screen size is appropriate. The Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP is light weight and can easily keep in purse or pocket without any problem. I am very happy with Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP. I find better than what I really wanted. I can see this game will be my kids companion up to age 15. I will give the Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP 10 out of 10.

The Panasonic HDC-TM300 has a slimmer profile that’s more comfortable to hold and easier on the eyes. However, it still has the impressive video performance that drew pur approval when we reviewed its hard drive based sister model. The Panasonic HDC-TM300  camcorder record excellent video in all lighting conditions, captures surprisingly good still photos and just about every features you could want in a consumer camcorder.

The three models incorporate the same 12x zoom f1.8-2.8 lens the same lens as the HS100/SD100 as well the same trio of 1/4 inch and 3 megapixel 3MOS sensors, with an effective resolution of 2.07-megapixel each for 16:9 video. The real 3 megapixel for the predown sampled AVCHD video finally breaks the resolution berrier, normally, 3-chip systems use lower that HD resolution sensors, which don’t seem to produce terribly sharp HD video. Because the different media, the camcorders have slightly different design, but the same features sets and should have identical video quality.

The Highest video quality they offer is 1,929×1,080 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second at 17 megabits per second and can record about 8 minutes of video per gigabyte of storage space or approximately 4 hours of video in the internal memory. The next level down, 13Mbps, gets about 10 minutes per gigabyte.

The Panasonic HRD-TM300 is 85g lighter than the HS300 and Panasonic has been able to redesign the chassis slightly too. The base dimensions are almost identical, but the handgrip side has a smoother, rounder contour which is a little easier to hold. The wheel for switching the camcorder on into video, camera r playback mode has been moved to the side and can now be operated one handed with your thumb.  But more significantly the zoom telephoto rocker is now on the top of the main body, allowing it to be a much more sensible size.

Being an avid photography junkie and self-proclaiming myself as an amateur photographer, I had to contact Sedrick Miles when I stumbled upon his work on behance.net. I was completely drawn in. Some of his images are so personal and intimate. Not too long ago, I was able to interview Sedrick Miles and gain insight into who he is and what photography means to him. Enjoy.

1. Hello, Sed. How's everything?

Thanks for taking the time to allow me to interview. I'm doing well. Thanks for the opportunity. I'm honored.

2. So tell me a little about yourself, how old you are, where you are from/grew up, where you reside now.

I'm 31. I was born in a village in SC called Bennettsville. I grew up between there and Anchorage, AK. After graduating from high school in SC I studied and worked in Atlanta, New York, DC, Philly, and I currently live in North Carolina.

3. Sed, do you have an artistic/photographic background? How did you first become interested in photography? Are you interested in any other art forms? Painting, illustration, deejay-ing…?

Like a lot of kids, I loved to draw growing up and I loved comics and drawing comic book characters. Art was always one of my favorite classes. I was editor of my high school paper when our advisor gave me his Canon Ae-1 for an assignment and I've been hooked ever since. It felt wonderful to finally find a way to express myself creatively.

4. As I stated in our initial email exchange, “That Hump-But| Her | Fly” and “Shoebox Diaries” were among my favorites; I could reference many more. What was the inspiration behind those images? You mentioned music influenced you in your email, but what are some of your other inspirations/influences?

“That Hump…” was inspired by the Erykah Badu song. I was out of town managing a leadership development training when I had to leave early to travel back to Philly. My wife had been in the hospital for a serious illness and had taken a bad turn. I saw the butterfly beneath the curb as I was getting in the car to take the long ride back to her. So I got a photo of it before I left. That song is also one of my wife's favorites. It motivated her through her healing process.

There is so much music that influences my work. My favorite music is from the soul and gives insight into life when you hear it. I try to make my photography have the same effect when viewed. Even more than music, I am influenced by relationships. Many of my most popular photos are portraits of great friends and family members who have shared.

5. I gotta ask, how did it feel to capture images of our President, Barack Obama, during the campaign trail? Thinking back to that moment, what kinds of emotions were you feeling? What were some of the thoughts that were running through your mind?

I know that we will never forget that day. I went to a rally in Philly a few months before, but there was over 30K people. We could barely see the stage. For the Raleigh rally we got lucky and found a decent spot. Everyone was taking pictures and very excited about supporting him. But one thing that surprised me was how many people were talking amongst each other through his speech. I also got upset when adults in front of me wouldn't let some young children (a little boy and his sister) get closer to the gate. They even said, “they should have gotten here earlier”. That showed me that after the hype is over, Obama's support of a new social contract will really require all of us to expect better of each other. Especially the way we treat children. I am excited about the potential for communities to grow stronger with the help of Obama's unique ability to inspire the masses.

“What the camera does for me is like what the trumpet or drums does for a musician. It gives me a way to express myself, and to grow in expression as I grow my skills.”

6. That leads to my next question. You seem to shoot varied subjects, but most seem to be of humans. How do you seek out your subjects? Do you prepare and plan your photographs or is there a type of spontaneity within your work?

Actually, there is a little bit of all of that. I find it very difficult to photograph people or subjects that I don't like or want to get to know better. I hope that I can be successful with this approach because it feels so satisfying that every photo is a growing experience. I am usually inspired by relationships and how people interact with one another. I think that we all have stories to tell, so when someone wants to tell their story to me, I pay attention and allow them to connect with the camera. I would like to get better at both imagining and setting up shots as well as spontaneous photos. I look forward to photographing more strangers, collecting more stories…

7. It seems that a lot of your images are in black and white, which personally I love. Is there a reason for this?

No, I enjoy both black and white and color photography. I began using black and white film with my first camera, so I developed an eye for textures and shapes. I am still learning the skills to take great color photos.

8. What type of equipment do you use? Software?

Right now I am using a weathered Canon 30D, but looking to upgrade soon. I like the basic 50 mm lens for a lot of my work. It forces you to learn technique. I also have a new lens that I am thoroughly enjoying, A Tamron 17-55. They are both great pieces of glass. I use Photoshop CS for editing.

9. You said you were in the midst of a career change and will become a full time photographer. What type of photography do you like best and what type of photographer do you want to become?

I enjoy the journalistic aspect of photography, that and portraits. In the future I plan to spend half of my time traveling and documenting the lives of people in different communities around the globe, and spend the other half photographing my favorite musicians, and continuing to do portrait work.

10. A quote by the late, great Gordon Parks resides on your website; “The subject matter is so much more important than the photographer.” What does that quote mean to you? What is your photography philosophy?

Photography as an art and a science is very personal to me. Like a lot of people, I rely heavily on images as my way of processing the world around me, the emotions and all. What the camera does for me is like what the trumpet or drums does for a musician. It gives me a way to express myself, and to grow in expression as I grow my skills. I believe strongly in the quote, which is why I attempt to focus on subject matter that is often forgotten or deprecated by mainstream media.

“I am usually inspired by relationships and how people interact with one another.”

11. 2009 is here, what kinds of plans do you have for your career? Do you have any projects in the works?

Currently I am working on a portrait project called Visual Wealth. I am creating an encyclopedia of faces in order to illustrate the spectrum of features shared between people around the globe. But I need support and votes in order to win. Your readers can visit www.tinyurl.com/sedsdream to learn more and vote for the project.

12. What other interesting tidbits would you like to share about Sedrick Miles?

Well, I'm excited about collaborations in the next few years and I am also working on a project within my creative boutique to help non-profit community groups with affordable identity consultation services. And when I have the time I continue to do media literacy workshops and leadership development trainings. If groups are looking to collaborate they can email me at click@sedrickmiles.com.

The Tamron 18-250mm zoom lens achieves a minimum focus distance of 0.45m (17.7”) throughout the entire zoom range, top of the class capability among high power zoom lenses for digital SLR cameras, which results in a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.5 at the 250mm tele-end.

The optical system uses an LD (Low Dispersion) glass element and one AD (Anomalous Dispersion) lens in the first group to minimise on-axis chromatic aberration while achieving the 250mm ultra-tele focal length. In addition, suitable positioning of two hybrid aspherical lens elements serves to meet the desired compactness despite its 13.9X zoom power. In particular, Tamron’s engineers have pursued a thorough analysis of the optical configuration of the third lens group for optimum power distribution in the overall optical system. The approach has resulted in the sufficient compensation of aberrations, including astigmatism; the compactness, thanks to downsizing of the first group; the high zoom power; and optimum optical quality.

Di II: Lenses are designed for exclusive use on digital cameras with smaller-size imagers and inherit all of the benefits of our Di products.

Afro-Brazilian Cinema Set to Break into the Mainstream

I actually have the credentials to be a total cinema snob. I got a piece of paper from Webster University that says I can be. It was mostly an accident that got me this piece of paper. I love movies. I have always loved movies. It comes from my dad who loves movies and used to sit me down and tell me to watch certain movies because he figured I would like them and, most of the time, he was right. This is how I became fans of “Fail-Safe,” and “The Wild Bunch.” I also saw the suite of Man With No Name movies by Sergio Leone that starred a young Clint Eastwood in a poncho and bad dubbing.

Apparently if you attend a school like Webster University, which has a large theater and film and media department then you get the chance to watch a lot of movies. You spend a lot of time dissecting moves the way scientists will dissect a frog. You take a lot of film history classes. You also get to take classes that meet once a week with names like “Film Theory and Criticism: The Films of Martin Scorsese.” This class would get together, watch “Raging Bull” or “Taxi Driver” and then discuss it like the end of the world depending on us discovering religious symbolism in “Taxi Driver” and then write a four-page paper about it. Also, apparently, if you take enough of those classes you can graduate with a Certificate in Film Theory and Criticism. That's what I got and that was my minor and that's why I am, essentially, still not gainfully employed to this day.

In each of these classes there was always the Cinema Snob. You have probably run into these people before. These are the types of folks who sit around watching “Citizen Kane” for fun. While I too appreciate that movie and have watched it more than once I am also willing to admit that it isn't exactly a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat romp like some other movies. It is long and ponderous and way too serious about itself.

These were the folks who couldn't seem to watch a movie in its historical perspective. I have a good friend who is like this. He watched the movie “Birth of a Nation” in a film class and could only talk about how bad the plot was. When I tried to stress that the fact it had a plot was still relatively revolutionary at the time and that the movie was complicated and had an epic feel and that was revolutionary fell on deaf ears. Yes there are terrible flaws in this movie including its shocking and bald-faced racism, but you can also appreciate the movie in its perspective. This is a movie that had huge, epic battle scenes that had never been filmed before. It was one of the first to use the camera to some effect rather than just letting it sit passively by.

There are those who, I think, sometimes lose sight of the fact that movies are to provide some kind of escape and should still be fun. I run into too many people who seem to want movies to change their lives or their perspective on the world. They want deep characters and complicated plots. These are all good things. These are things that elevate movies into the realm of cinema and art, but they don't have to be there every time. I think a movie can still be fun.

I have brought up a certain movie time and again in my writing that I hold up as an example of a guilty pleasure and loving a movie just because it is fun rather than, oh, good. This movie is the Bruce Willis vehicle called “The Last Boy Scout.” This movie, when looked at logically, makes little sense, is not even the tiniest bit even remotely possibly, could never happen and has the characters doing things that they just could not survive. If Bruce Willis' character were a real person in real life there is no way he would be alive by the end of this movie. This is a movie that has a character shot through the hand in one scene and then throwing a football while riding a horse a second later. I am fully and freely admitting this is a very stupid, silly movie.

Want to know the other thing about this movie? If you can literally shut down your brain for a while and stop trying to be logical or make sense out of it is a movie that hits the ground running and never stops. I mean this movie opens with a football player carrying a gun onto the field and shooting the other team and ends in a football stadium with a sniper getting chopped up by helicopter blades. The bad guys are really bad. The good guys are good enough for you to cheer for them. Then the bad guys get their comeuppance and they get it good.

I saw this movie on video with a bunch of friends in college. None of us was expecting a good movie. We were looking for a movie to make fun of. We didn't get a good movie but we got a movie that was so earnest in its badness and willingness to baffle us with B.S. that we were all swept up into the story and cheering by the end.

The movie “Desperado” is still one that can spark arguments between me and one of my friends. Again, this is a movie that makes little sense. Not one second of this is believable in the real world. However, I am an old comic book fan. I am a guy who believes a radioactive spider-bite can make you able to stick to walls and give you a “spider sense.” Therefore a guy with a guitar case full of guns who never runs out of bullets isn't much of a stretch for me on the believability scale. I laughed and cheered and had a blast watching this movie. My friend thought it was the dumbest thing he has ever seen.

There are just those who think that everything you do should somehow enhance your life. If they aren't watching a television show with profound writing or reading some ridiculously complicated book that somehow gives them deeper insight into the inner-workings of their psyche or the world around them then they feel like the time isn't well spent. This same attitude, logically, gets applied to movies. I, personally, feel that entertaining yourself and letting yourself forget about the world for a while is worthy cause and that being entertained is enough of a reward.

Of course, as I say this, I have recently been asked by a certain online magazine to be a movie critic to review DVDs and have those reviews linked to Rottentomatoes.com. Once I start reviewing these movies it may turn me into one of these cinema snobs. I think too many movie critics turn into cinema snobs and, in some ways, that makes sense. If you had the job of reviewing movies then you might want to have some quality and you might get a little jaded.

Still, I hope I will always believe that there is room for movies that are fun and not profound. I think there is room for “National Treasure” and “Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.” Not everyone has to be a literal adaptation from the original source and not all of them have to change the world. They can just be fun.

Sorority Sigma Gamma Rho has been suspended by the Rutgers University after a horrific discovery of hazing disclosed. Six students were charged with putting pledges through a horrific nightmare, lasting eight days, that included beatings and starvation, authorities said yesterday. According to the NY Post, the Sigma Gamma Rho Six are: Llana Warner, 20, of The Bronx; Vanessa Adegbite, 21, of Jersey City; Joana Bernard, 21, of West Orange; Kesha Cheron, 20, of Newark; Shawna Ebanks, 21, of East Orange; and Marie Charles, 21, of West Orange. They have been charged with felony aggravated hazing. The chapter was also suspended by the national organization, which is based in North Carolina. Sorry, they shouldn't simply be suspended. They should be banned for life from the campus.

But one of as many as seven alleged victims described a frightening nightly ritual of paddlings, saying she'd been struck 201 times between Jan. 18 and Monday, The Star-Ledger reported. Others told cops they'd been denied food.

“They told us there was no hazing, that they didn't believe in it,” the pledge said, telling the newspaper she wanted to join Sigma Gamma Rho because of its history of community service. She said the group was told the beatings would “humble” them and get them to rely on one another.”At the end, we were supposed to be helping each other,” she said.

By Monday, however, she said she couldn't lie down without pain, and called her family to take her to a hospital. Trevor said she's been released. Source: NY Post

I attended Ohio University and there were several Greek organizations on campus and I consciously decided against joining one of these organizations after I saw what happened to my roommate who pledged with Delta Sigma Theta. I found the process utterly ridiculous. She was placed on social silence, meaning she couldn't talk to anyone other than the girls she was pledging with and the other members of the sorority. Her grades suffered and she lost a lot of weight. Then there were the fraternities that engaged in hazing. I recall an incident involving Omega Psi Phi, in which a student lost one of his kidneys because he was beaten. In my opinion, one does not need to join any organization that engages in physical assault and violence.

I recall the nickname for Sigma Gamma Rho at Ohio University was Sigma Gamma Who because no one really wanted to join that organization. Well, that's how they should be viewed now. This is unacceptable and I am glad criminal charges have been filed. The chapter shouldn't be suspended. They should be banned for life from Rutgers University.

When the lights went down, the paddles came out.

Six members of Sigma Gamma Rho at Rutgers University — an 88-year-old national Greek organization — allegedly subjected one pledge to nightly beating for eight days, authorities say.

Beginning Jan. 18, the hapless initiate was denied food and slapped on the buttocks with a wooden paddle in a cruel rite designed to “humble” her.

The victim's rear end became so bloody and wounded that she had to be hospitalized. Six students have been charged.

News of the sick ritual hit a raw nerve at the college's New Brunswick, NJ, campus yesterday.

How to Play Game Boy Advance Games on Your Computer

Enero 28th, 2010 by justincalderon1952

Inside a crappy iLO HDTV 2 by programwitch

LG Handy bestellen

The original Game Boy, the black and white handheld system that finally allowed you to play cartridge games nearly as good as the ones on your regular television. If only I had a Game Boy when I was growing up then maybe those long car trips would have been fun. I got my Game Boy when the system was still new and have bought virtually every game, from the poorly programmed to the ones with levels impossible to pass to the truly great. Since only the five best will be mentioned here I would like to give honorable mention to the other great games. All of the “Super Mario” games were winners, even when the character inexplicably changed into Warrio. “Ballon Kid” and Kirby were also great. The first “Skate or Die”. “Super Hunchback”. “Sneaky Snakes”. “Gargoyles Quest”. “Bionic commando”. And for goofy reasons “Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle” where for no apparent reason some of Bugs' enemies are Foghorn Leghorn and Sylvester.

5. Any One of the Mega Man Games
Not much difference between them so I could not decide which one was the best and belongs in this spot. You are a robot who can upgrade his abilities by beating each robot at the boss level. Beat a robot boss and gain his power. Use those powers to access new levels until you finally get to the villain of the game, a mad scientist who has usually built himself his own mega robot suit to fight you with. Beat the mad scientist and he bows begging for mercy moments before he gets away.
Same every game but always just as fun.

4. Operation C
Just as fun as the regular NES version. Basically you are a soldier with unlimited ammo shooting your way through enemies who fire back very slow moving bullets.

3. Castlevania Adventure
OK, there was one frustrating part where your character has to climb up a series of ropes while some jagged spheres rise up out of the flood but otherwise this was a superb adaption of the franchise. Basically you belong to the Belmont family who for the past few hundred years have been fighting Dracula every time he rises from the grave. Why Belmont? Because he character Van Helsing is owned by the Bram Stoker estate. Dracula is a real name for a medieval count who was not really a vampire, which gives anyone permission to use it even without the Stroker estate's permission. As a Belmont you carry a magic whip that turns zombies and other monsters into flaming dust. You must fight your way trough Transylvania and several levels of Dracula's castle for the final confrontation

2. Final Fantasy Adventure
Four games in the final fantasy franchise. There was “Final Fantasy Legend”, “Final Fantasy Legend II”, and “Final Fantasy Legend III”. You would think that something that was final would end at the first game but apparently the word final in this franchise is meaningless. While I liked the other games in the series they all had the same problem, the RPG fights. This is where the screen suddenly changes to pictures and text as you manage how your band of heroes is going to fight the enemy or use their magic. Those fights can become monotonous after a while. “Final Fantasy Adventure” has more of the Zelda like clashes where you slash away at enemies in real time which makes the game move a lot faster.

1. Legend of Zelda: links Awakening
**SPOILER ALERT** The surprise ending to this game? It was all a dream. You play Link who on his way back from his last adventure gets caught in a storm in the middle of the ocean. He wakes up on a mysterious island where once again he has to gather the necessary items for survival in any Zelda game, the sword to kill enemies and chop down plants, the shield, the feathered that allow you to jump over holes, the grappling hook that pulls you across large gaps, and so on. Each item you find allows you to gain access to more of the island where you find more maze like dungeons where more items are hidden. Gradually you solve the mystery of the games villain who in this game turns out to be the nightmare of a sleeping whale. Somehow Link is trapped in the whales dream and must gather all the musical instruments he finds in the dungeons that will wake the whale up, but at the same time cause all the friends he made on the island to vanish. The great thing about this game was how well it compared to the previous game released on Super Nintendo. BTW, despite the title of this game stating that this was supposed to be the legend of princess Zelda she is not mentioned once in this game.
